Just recently we were delighted to learn that two of our own wines were presented gold medal awards! Appellation America’s Best of Appellation gave our 2006 Farm House Hombre, as well as our 2007 Farm House Bella these fantastic awards.

“Appellation America’s mission is to advance public knowledge and appreciation of the many diverse winegrowing regions of North America. The Best-of-Appellation Evaluation Program is an on-going process of identifying the wines in each appellation which best express the character of the appellation and the quality of wine craftsmanship in the region.

MAQUOKETA, IA – April 2, 2009 – The Iowa Wine Trail welcomes Engelbrecht Family Winery of Fredericksburg as the newest member. Engelbrecht Family Winery together with the eight other member wineries invites wine enthusiasts far and wide to attend the “Spring into Iowa’s Local Foods.” Each winery will serve samples of local Iowa foods paired with excellent Iowa-made wines of the Upper Mississippi River Valley during the annual special spring event. The “Spring into Iowa’s Local Foods” Weekend runs Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. both days.

Each winery will offer to ticketholders unique family recipes paired with equally unique, locally made wines. Tickets for the weekend event may be purchased in advance for $25 each or for $35 each on the day of the event. Single day tickets are also available for $20 each in advance, and $30 the day of the event. Visitors who attend all nine wineries during the weekend will be included in a drawing for special door prizes.

Each winery will have special food and wine pairings.  … Engelbrecht Family Winery will offer samples of poached pears, buffalo blue cheese burgers, chicken cobber casserole, and éclairs.

The Iowa Wine Trail is a cooperative group of wineries of the Upper Mississippi River Valley wine region, which is currently being considered for American Viticultural Area designation. The Iowa wineries of the Upper Mississippi River Valley region developed the Iowa Wine Trail to creatively market the area as a travel destination for wine enthusiasts. Creative efforts from this cooperative include a map of the trail, so that travelers can experience independent tours of this particular Iowa wine area as well as annual seasonal events. These events occur the first weekend in November and the last weekend in April.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner - can you believe it?! To celebrate, Chef Sharon and the rest of the crew here at the Farm House are having some special dinners in the Gathering Room. Here’s more information:

Bring your sweetheart to the Farm House Gathering Room for a Spectacular Valentine’s Dinner on Friday evening, February 13^th or Saturday evening, February 14^th. Dining times are 5:00 pm and 7:30 pm.

Dinner includes:

• your Favorite Farm House wine,

• appetizers,

• our House Salad,

• Farm House homemade rolls,

• an entrée of Parmesan Crusted Shrimp on Angel Hair Pasta or

• a Glazed 14 oz. Iowa Chop with Buttery Mashed Potato Bake,

Here at the Farm House, we LOVE Christmas and the holiday season. To get into the spirit, and help others do the same, we’re having a special celebration!

On Friday and Saturday, December 5th & 6th, you get 10% off EVERYTHING in the Farm House Shop - including our own Farm House Wines, all shop items, as well as gift certificates for the B&B and the Shop. You can also get greater discounts on selected Shop items.

One of the great things about the Farm House experience is having a meal in the Gathering Room. Our private dining room caters to groups of 10 or more for a home-cooked, sit-down meal. Check out the Gathering Room page on our website for more information!
